Booting without keyboard solution

Keyboard Error
When implementing keyboardless systems, a common problem is that of the system halting with the message "Keyboard Error - press F1 to Continue" (or similar) during the boot up sequence.

Possible Solutions
BIOS setting
In many cases, it is simply a matter of going into the BIOS settings, looking for the Halt on Errors setting, and configuring the system to ignore the keyboard error. Most new systems have this option, but there is a lot of existing hardware that does not have such a setting.

Destroy a keyboard
The advice frequently given in the technical forums is to dismantle a working keyboard and cut down the PCB to retain just the processor and lead to connect to the PC. This is not ideal (especially if rolling out a number of systems), as there will be a length of lead dangling from the back of the PC, with a piece of board on the end. Steps must be taken to ensure the exposed PCB cannot short circuit to the PC case or any other nearby metalwork, otherwise system crashes or permanent damage to the PC motherboard may occur.

Dummy Keyboard
The Multibug PS/2 Dummy Keyboard is the neatest solution (where the option of a BIOS setting is not available). It is simple and safe to install, has no dangling cable, and protrudes less than 30mm from the back of the connector panel (which itself is usually recessed from the back face of the PC).
